 This is a portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer II by Gustav Klimt. Adele Bloch-Bauer was a close friend of the artist. It is an oil on canvas painting made on a 1.9m x 1.2m canvas. The painting was sold by Maria Altmann to an anonymous buyer for just $87.9 million! Adele Bloch-Bauer II was then the 10th most expensive paintings in the world.

Sold for $95.2 million

“Dora Maar with Chat” translates to “Dora Maar with cat” in English. This 1941 painting by Pablo Picasso depicts Dora Maar, Picasso’s lover along with her cat. The painting was sold to Boris Ivanishvili for 95.2 million dollars back in May 2006 at the Sotheby’s auction house. It held the the fifth position for the world’s most expensive paintings during that time.

Roy Lichtenstein, American pop art painter made this painting in 1964. Nurse is the 29th most expensive painting ever sold. It was auctioned at Christie’s auction house, New York and was sold for 95.4 million dollars.

“Garçon à la pipe” translates to “Boy with a Pipe” in English. This amazing picture was painting by none other than Pablo Picasso. The picture shows a boy holding a pipe in his left hand and wearing wreath of flowers.The painting was sold to Barilla Group by the Whitney family at the Sotheby’s auction house, New York.

Sold for $105 million

The Silver Car Crash (Double Disaster) is a screen printing by Andy Warhol. The serigraph which is 2.4m x 4m depicts a body twisted in the mangled interior of a silver car. The serigraph was auctioned at Sotheby’s, New York and was sold to an unknown buyer for $105 million setting the world record for the highest price paid for a painting in an auction at that time.
